{Before & After}

I love this kitchen makeover from Southern Living. Doesn't it seem like 70's ranchers always make the best makeovers? You usually get a nice simple one story floor plan which is very practical as you get older, large rooms, pretty decent closet and storage space and lots and lots of wood that begs to be painted white. A great makeover candidate. To be honest, when we were looking for our first home, I knew I wanted an older home and something with charm and character. I wanted that perfect "Better Homes and Garden" cottage. I wouldn't even look at older ranch "Brady Bunch" houses. No way, they were not for me. Boy if I knew then what I know now. Don't get me wrong, I love our 1930's Dutch Colonial, but those of you who live in an older home know some of the things we sacrifice for "charm and character".....small closets, lack of free flowing space for entertaining and the dreaded "the laundry is in the basement and the bedrooms are on the second floor". As I said, I do love our home, but I wouldn't turn my nose up at those dark wood Brady Bunch houses now. Just look at what you can do.....
