As my husband was cleaning out the garage, he knocks on the window and says "You don't have any use for this little wood box I found, do you?". (He knows me well.) Well of course I do! I scrubbed it up and stamped some numbers on it and now it holds remote controls. I just love the patina of the wood. It was free and took about 2 minutes. You can't beat that.
The best part is that on the bottom you can see where a child drew an airplane and wrote 1956. I tried to get a picture but it's hard to see since it's in pencil. I love thinking that he was probably out there playing while his dad was working in the garage back in 1956.
